HearthHandoff demo
A read-only tour of one household. No sign-in needed and nothing here can be changed. Sample household
June lives on her own. She owns the Ring account and decides who sees each visit. Dana is her caregiver, Sam is her son, Priya delivers groceries. All the people are fictional, and so are the door events on this page, which use Ring's real webhook format, run through the same code, and are labeled as replays wherever they appear.
Verified with a real Ring account
Separately, HearthHandoff is linked to a real Ring account through Ring's one-way account linking. Over the last 7 days it has received:
- 120 real door events from 3 Ring devices, 93 of them classified by Ring as a person
- 110 delivered by HMAC-signed webhook, every one of them also confirmed by the Event History API and merged into a single entry
- 10 more found only by the Event History backstop poll
- Median webhook delay: about 1 s after the motion
- 1 real visit matched to real door activity
Only totals are shown, never times or patterns from that home.
A day at June's
Morning check-in
Door activity lined up with the visit, and Dana confirmed it. A person closed the visit, not the Ring events.
- Visit window opens · 9:00 AM
-
Doorbell pressed · Front door · 9:04 AM
Local replay, not from Ring
Ring recorded activity at the door. This does not show who it was or whether care happened.
Why it's shown here (match-v1): Doorbell pressed recorded at 9:04 AM, inside the visit window 9:00 AM–10:00 AM (grace −15/+30 min).
-
Motion (Ring classified: person) · Front door · 9:49 AM
Local replay, not from Ring

“Breakfast done, pills taken from the weekly organizer.”
Confirmed by the person, in HearthHandoff.
- Visit window ends · 10:00 AM
Afternoon visit
Ring saw activity, but Dana never confirmed, so Sam got a follow-up. Motion classified as a vehicle stays off the visit.
- Visit window opens · 2:00 PM
-
Motion (Ring classified: person) · Front door · 2:07 PM
Local replay, not from Ring
Ring recorded activity at the door. This does not show who it was or whether care happened.
Why it's shown here (match-v1): Motion (Ring classified: person) recorded at 2:07 PM, inside the visit window 2:00 PM–3:00 PM (grace −15/+30 min).
Arrived 12 min after it happened. Placed by the time Ring recorded it.
- Not shown on this visit · 2:40 PM
Ring-format motion classified as vehicle: motion classified as "vehicle" is not treated as door activity. Owners still see it in their private list, deleted after 7 days.
- Visit window ends · 3:00 PM
- Follow-up opened for Sam · 3:31 PM
Follow-up needed: Afternoon visit
Dana has not confirmed this visit, and the confirm-by time has passed.
- Ring recorded 1 door event near the visit time. That shows activity at the door, not who it was or whether the visit happened.
- Next step: contact Dana, or check in with June directly.
Opened Thu, Oct 22, 3:31 PM for Sam (in app, emailed via Amazon SES).
In the real app Sam gets this in the app and by email (Amazon SES), with buttons to call or text Dana, say "I'm checking in", or resolve with a note.
Grocery delivery
Priya can see only this delivery, not June's other visits or any door activity outside it.
Not due yet.
What a caregiver sees
How did it go?
Dana's phone view after a visit: two large buttons and an optional note.
The rules it follows
- Ring recorded activity at the door. This does not show who it was or whether care happened.
- Only a person closes a visit: the visitor, the person whose home it is, or the follow-up contact with a note, and each is labeled with their role. Missing Ring activity is never treated as an emergency, and nothing is dispatched automatically.
- The owner adds and removes trusted people; removing someone signs them out immediately and they're never emailed again.
- No video, images, identity recognition, or unlocking. Unattached door activity is owner-only and deleted after 7 days.
- match-v1: a Ring door event is shown on a visit when (1) it came from the visit's chosen Ring device (or any linked device if none was chosen), (2) it is a doorbell press or a motion event whose type is not "vehicle", and (3) the time the device recorded it falls between the window start minus the early grace and the window end plus the late grace. Delivery time is ignored, so a delayed event still lands where it happened. One event may appear on more than one overlapping visit.
